The more I learn, the more I realize that I just can’t know everything. This is especially true with other people’s experiences.
We each experience life from our own unique perspective. So it’s a little silly and pretty foolish to make assumptions about what someone else is going through.
You could have had very similar circumstances to them. Practically identical, even. But the fact is, you don’t have their exact history, their frame of mind in relation to those circumstances, or the same emotional reactions as them. You just don’t have all of that information available in order to make an appropriate assumption.
When I fall for the trap of assuming something about somebody else, I try to remind myself that there’s more to the story than I’m aware of, so I shouldn’t get too cocky about my conjecture.
Because there is always more to the story.
