It’s easy for anyone to act like a pleasant person when things are going smoothly. What happens when things go sideways?
When life gets hard, and the pressure is on, that’s when your true self comes out. Your “true self” being made up of your beliefs, the thoughts you regularly think, and the things you frequently say to yourself.
Wayne Dyer used to talk about this with an orange analogy. He’d say: “When you squeeze an orange, orange juice comes out – because that’s what’s inside. When you are squeezed, what comes out is what is inside.”
If you’re filled with angry, suspicious, and judgmental thoughts, then that is what’s going to pour out when you get squeezed.
If you’re filled with loving, peaceful thoughts, then that’s what will come out, even when the pressure is on.
That’s when you can tell if a person is merely acting pleasant, or if that’s truly their character.
It’s worth it to fill yourself with loving thoughts. Then you can always be assured that loving thoughts is what will come out when life puts a squeeze on you.
