If you’ve made a mistake, then congratulations! You’ve now, (hopefully) learned a valuable lesson. And so, you don’t need to keep reliving it in your mind, in all its cringe-worthy detail. Living through it once should suffice.
But why do we like to replay those embarrassingly low points of our lives over and over, on a mental loop? Is it because we think that by mentally rehashing our mistakes, and feeling that same embarrassment over and over, that we’ll ensure it won’t be repeated again in real life?
That’s an interesting tactic, but mighty ineffective. It’s also quite frankly, unloving. Life isn’t meant to be a punishment. Ease up on yourself.
Choose to learn from your mistakes, and then let them stay put in the past. There’s no need to dig them up again for repeat viewing.
