It seems to me that in the debate over religion, those arguing against it, are relating it to an ideology, and yet those arguing in defense of it, are relating it to spirituality. So really, the debate itself might boil down to a simple failure to communicate.
I mean, of course they can’t see eye-to-eye if neither side is even speaking about the same thing!
This revelation could probably help ease debates on even less volatile topics than religion. If you’re going to argue, perhaps it would be wise to make sure that you’re both talking about the same thing first, before any verbal shot is fired.
In any kind of relationship, communication is key. And it’s so much more than just mouthing off. Listening, and yes, even respect, are essential.
