Listening is the most underrated superpower in the game.

True listening is more than just hearing the other person out before you get your chance at the mic.

True listening allows the other person to reveal themselves even more than they realize that they may be doing. If you really listen to the other person, you start to hear and see the emotions underneath their message. You start to see their pain and their all-too-human flaws.

If you’re really listening, then empathy magically bubbles up for you as you witness this. That empathy is the salve to heal your pain, and from there it can go on to help heal theirs.

That is the power of listening. It can do so much more than merely hear their words so that you can formulate your own wordy retort. Listening can help you to hear both hurt humans involved in the discussion.
