On my old computer’s desktop wallpaper, I had this cute picture I found of a cartoon figure looking up at a full moon, with a caption that read:
Two things to remember in life: Take care of your thoughts when you’re alone, and Take care of your words when you’re with people.
Much like that cartoon guy seems to do, I often ponder those words of wisdom, and take care to remember the advice. Because I’ve been around long enough now to learn that when I’m not careful of the words I use with others, or with the thoughts I have to myself, then it’s just a sure way to unhappiness. Mean words can be forgiven, but not so easily forgotten. And mean thoughts seem to be stickier than the pleasant ones. They’re much harder to shake off.
“Take care of your thoughts when you’re alone, and take care of your words when you’re with people.” Such great advice in how to navigate life. It’s simple, and I love that it’s only a two-parter. So it’s easy to remember.
