But if you force yourself to act nice, for the sake of appearances, the pressure will ultimately do you in.
All it takes is one final run-in with a thoughtless jerk, and that pressure-cooker of a “nice” facade will burst.
Then, heaven help that jerk.
It might be better to have awareness; that there’s a lot of thoughtlessness going on out there, and also, that people don’t care if you appear nice as much as you think they do.
Don’t force any appearance.
Practice kindness instead, especially to yourself, and forget about the idea of “nice.”
