I was never a fan of dress rehearsals. The anxiety of a production is at an all time high that night, and anything that can go wrong, usually does. Actually, they say that a terrible dress rehearsal means you’ll have a great opening night. Because, essentially then you’ve gotten all of the kinks out. They can be horribly stressful, and are usually my least favorite night of a production.
So, why do most of us live our lives as if we’re in a dress rehearsal? Why do we defer happiness, joy, and full-out living, as if the real deal is coming later on?
Friedrich Nietzsche said, Enjoy life. This is not a dress rehearsal.
This is it. This, right here and now, is the real deal. I believe that we are here for a reason, and that reason is to live a joyous life, full-out. We are each the star of our own show, and that show is happening NOW.
This is life. This is not a dress rehearsal. I’m so glad, because that’s usually my least favorite night of a production. The only night I like even less, is the night after the show closes. When it’s all over, and I find myself wishing for just one more night to enjoy it…
This is not a dress rehearsal, but one day your “show” will close for good. Enjoy your run while it lasts.
