Whenever I’ve gone into mental free fall, and I can sense the next stop will be full-on panic, I’ve learned to anchor into focusing on my breath. And, once I’ve stopped the cognitive plummet with a slow inhale, pause, and slow exhale, I’ve learned to then effectively climb back up out of the pit by deliberately thinking of what I can be grateful for.
Focus on breath, and then gratitude. It’s a magic formula I’ve found that has helped bring me back to a sense of peaceful calm whenever I apply it.
