My hero, Fred Rogers, would share this wisdom his mother gave to him as a boy whenever he saw scary things in the news. She would say, “Look for the helpers, you will always find people who are helping.”
He summed it up as, “If you look for the helpers, you’ll know that there is hope.”
I’ve been so moved witnessing how companies, individuals and countries are working to help mitigate the severity and spread of the coronavirus. It’s admirable seeing people share words of encouragement, coping strategies, and even helpful stats through social media. And it’s so beautifully uplifting to watch the videos of quarantined Italians singing together from their separate balconies as a heartfelt way to help boost morale.
Yes, look for the helpers. For then you’ll see that there is still so much light to find in this world, even in the darkest of times.
