A request is not a demand, it requires an agreement from the other party to fulfill. A demand flat out insists.

Think of when something is demanded of you. You may do it, but there’s no respect in the choice from you, and you certainly don’t feel respected by them.

So, if you want to keep respect in the relationship, remember to temper the ask as a request and lay off of the demand.
